Time: 2:30-1:30 PM in The ESL Classroom
Topic: A Polymer-Based 60 GHz Beamforming Array with Integrated CMOS Active Components
Speaker: Will Moulder
Abstract:
The unlicensed 60 GHz band (57-64 GHz in the US) is being considered for short-range multiple Gbits/sec wireless communications. High gain beamforming antennas are necessary for such wireless systems due to high propagation losses in this band. Further, for practical implementation, such an antenna must be highly integrated. To this end, a beamforming array in a heterogeneous package which integrates polymer-based passive components with silicon CMOS active components is presented. The challenges of integrating a system in a heterogeneous RF package are discussed, as well as some mitigating approaches.
