Established in 1942, the ElectroScience Laboratory (ESL) is a major center of excellence within The Ohio State University College of Engineering and Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and is one of the largest radio frequency and optics research laboratories in the world.
Having outgrown its aging home, ESL has partnered with SciTech to occupy space in an innovative, new 40,580ft2 facility that showcases the laboratory's unique talents, history and demonstrated ability to carry out cutting-edge research. The new facility will house approximately 100 faculty, researchers, staff and students and be connected to the current building via a walkway. SciTech will construct the new facility and maintain the rental space for corporations interested in establishing a relationship with the College of Engineering
This critically-needed new space will enable the ElectroScience Laboratory to continue to attract world-class faculty and students, strength ESL's legacy of innovation, teaching and scholarship; and ensure preeminence in research for decades to come.
In order to highlight ESL's long history and research innovations, and honor its many distinguished alumni and faculty, the new space will include a historical display area and a Hall of Fame walkway linking it to the existing building. ESL's laboratories, anechoic chamber, and other research equipment will remain in use in the current building.
Construction will begin fall 2009, with completion scheduled by early 2011.
